A guitar pedal that gets you high? There’s a catch

The music and weed worlds have long been intertwined—many artists of every genre and era have been open about their love for the plant, and in many cases, have implied that it helps them in their creative journeys. What if that partnership were taken to the next level? Guitar legend Robert Keeley once created a pedal you could smoke weed out of, but here’s the kicker: he’s not allowed to sell it.

Keeley is responsible for many impactful pedals, including the best-selling Keeley Compressor. He recently told GuitarWorld that he once concocted a much more innovative pedal that’ll never reach shelves. According to Keeley, the Vapor Drive pedal is an overdrive pedal—which simulates the sound of a tube amplifier that’s pushed to its operating limit—that you can “smoke/vape weed/THC out of.” The pedal is also rechargeable, another first in the industry.

Keeley said he can’t sell his pedal on Amazon, eBay, or Reverb because it’s technically a vaping product. Instead, he joked, “I scratch my head and take a toke from my cordless Vapor Drive pedal.”

This wouldn’t be the first time music giants dabbled in the weed world, nor will it be the last. From countless artists releasing flower lines, to bands like Slightly Stoopid making custom vape cartridges, to entire soundtracks dedicated to the history of marijuana, the plant has always had a place in music.

While Keeley’s product will most likely never hit the shelves, guitar-playing stoners will be jazzed to hear that a product of this caliber is in the works. Sometime down the line, retailing regulations may be at a place where products like these can be sold, or Keeley may decide that he’ll sell them individually. Either way, music’s biggest names continue looking to include the plant in their art form.
