Kacey Musgraves sets pot gossip straight

kacey musgraves and weed

Kacey Musgraves’s stoner fanbase bottomed out about a year ago when she released Deeper Well. That is because in the title track she sings that she used to wake and bake. She says that being high all the time felt right. But in the next run, the lyrics explain that she is getting rid of habits that help her waste time. The thought is punctuated by lines No regrets, baby, I just think that maybe // It’s natural when things lose their shine.

These thoughts about leaving pot behind are embedded in a beautiful song about stepping into oneself, but weed became the major headline. Every news outlet and fan was wondering whether Musgraves was smoking pot anymore.

She later doubled down on the lyric in an interview with Howard Stern, explaining that her cannabis use had stopped being fun. She had started to feel socially awkward and anxious after getting stoned. The singer ended that conversation by stating she was not done forever, but was finished for right now.

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) interviewed Musgraves about her new record deal with Lost Highway and what is to come. And the door is not completely closed to good old ganja.

“Um, I never said I don’t ever partake,” she said to THR. “I just don’t wake up and hit a gravity bong the size of my face anymore, which is what I did for a long time. But, hey, more power to whatever suits you.”

Now that the score is settled there, Musgraves is ready to tour Deeper Well internationally. The artist will perform at the Jaguariúna Rodeo Festival as her first time on stage in Brazil. The tour will visit Asia and Australia after South America. She expressed excitement about being a country music ambassador in each arena. And, since weed is not legal in many of them, perhaps it is wise that she cut back on the ganja before taking the tour over those seas.

Lovers of cannabis and good music can rest easy knowing that Musgraves would not turn down a joint under the right circumstances. But to be honest, they should probably have chilled out anyway.

Cannabis consumption looks different for everyone. Any person taking time to understand their habits to become happier should be celebrated–even if they quit. Yes, and even if they are Kacey Musgraves.
