The new pint-sized Puffco hits way harder than it should

Puffco is a cannabis hardware company that just won’t quit. Whether it’s updates to its flagship e-rig, the Peak Pro, or accessories meant to take your Puffco gear even further, the brand just can’t sit still. Weeks after introducing the Link, Puffco has another release aimed at making dabbing easier: the Proxy Core.

The Puffco Core is the latest addition to the modular Proxy system, making the e-rig more portable (and powerful) than ever before. The result is a pocket-sized dab rig that delivers clouds on par with larger desktop devices.

GreenState had a chance to test out the new unit, and it’s a hitter. If you’re on the hunt for an honest Puffco Proxy Core review, this is it.

Puffco Proxy Core: the basics

The Proxy Core is a portable electronic dab rig designed to provide robust rips in a compact package. At its center is the modular Proxy unit, which powers each dab. What sets it apart is its highly durable anodized aluminum and silicone base and the mouthpiece carb cap.

Together, it forms an e rig that fits in the palm of your hand. Despite its small size, the Proxy Core packs strong performance. This means longer battery life, bigger rips, and Puffco app compatibility.

Included with the Proxy Core are three 4mm terp pearls, the first time the brand has bundled the popular dab accessories. Terp pearls go inside the chamber with your extract, ensuring even heating and oil distribution.

There’s also a joystick carb cap, in case you want to use your Proxy with a separate glass unit. Rounding out the package are a USB-C charging cable, a pack of cotton swabs, and a metal dab tool.

Proxy Core review

In terms of how the Core works, it’s like any other Proxy: flip open the mouthpiece/carb cap, drop a bit of extract inside the ceramic 3D chamber, replace the cap, and fire away. Power it on by holding the side button; change temperature or activate heating by double-tapping or using the Puffco app.

After hitting the new Proxy Core, the GreenState team was impressed by both the flavor and vapor density. The addition of the terp pearls makes a noticeable difference, as does the direct airway. It feels like the Core hits harder than a regular Proxy.

The extra-durable cup base is also a welcome addition, offering a layer of protection not yet seen on a Proxy or Peak. It’s also got a smooth coating so it easily fits in a pocket, purse, or bag without picking up lint or debris.

The complete Proxy Core set is $220, the same price as the base Peak unit. Meanwhile, the Proxy Glass set runs $250 and includes a frosted-glass Sherlock pipe instead of the Core cup. If you already have a Proxy and just want the Core accessory, you can purchase it separately for $50.

The $220 price tag feels fair given the Core’s power and portability. But how does it compare to Puffco’s other flagship pocket rig, the Pivot?

Proxy Core vs Pivot

Extract fans who want a discreet dab on the go often tout the Puffco Pivot as one of the best dab pens on the market. The mobile vaporizer is the size of a mascara tube, concealing a mini 3D chamber that rips harder than you’d think. At $130, it’s also Puffco’s most affordable device.

While the Puffco Core costs $90 more, it takes your experience to the next level. The chamber is larger and more powerful, allowing you to take much bigger dabs.

The battery life is also far better, besting the Pivot by miles. The Core can also be customized and controlled via the Puffco app, while the Pivot is manual-only with four preset temps.

Additionally, the Pivot mouthpiece can get a bit too hot when on the red or white heat settings. This doesn’t seem to be an issue with the Core.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly and ultra-discreet dab device, the Pivot is a strong option. If big clouds, long battery life, and customization matter more, invest in the Proxy Core.

Puffco Proxy Core: big rips, small package

With almost 15 years in the game, Puffco is one of the most recognizable brands in hash culture. Often considered the Apple of weed tech, the company is constantly innovating. The new Proxy Core is a welcome addition to Puffco’s modular line, providing a potent and portable dab that goes the distance.
