Warnings issued for controversial cannabis compound

The number of cannabinoids, compounds like the most popular THC and CBD, have become a hot topic in the last few years. Scientists have become acquainted with droves more cannabinoids since the discovery of THC, including potential sleep aid CBN, energizing THCV, and the mother of all of them, CBG. While some of these compounds indicate they could have therapeutic potential, others raise concerns.

THCP is a minor cannabinoid that can naturally be at under 0.5 percent in the plant. Chemists are synthesizing THCP and infusing it into products at higher levels. The ability to synthesize THCP has resulted in a litany of products that people are claiming can get them high for days, feeling like they may have accidentally taken LSD. These negative experiences have become so prominent that one store in New Orleans has started actively warning people.
Hemp store issues HHC product warning
Simply Cannabis hemp store manager Jeffrey Wells explained to Fox8Live that employees have always warned customers about the elongated effects, but now more are reporting an accompanying illness after eating THCP edibles. People report nausea, vomiting, shaking, loss of feeling in their legs, and memory loss.

“Just please be careful with this. People can have a bad time. Just warn people that this is a lot stronger and not the THC that they are used to. They need to start off usually a lot smaller,” Wells said to Fox8Live.
HHC, another often synthesized cannabinoid, warranted similar warnings in Europe. The products caused nausea, vomiting, vertigo, and dizziness. It is unclear whether the adverse effects occur because of taking a highly quantified amount of a compound or a byproduct of synthesization.

Anyone feeling these issues after eating THCP should stay calm, rest, drink plenty of water, and wait for the effects to wear off. Synthetic cannabinoids are most popular in states without legalized cannabis programs. This localized interest implies that medical or adult-use reform could offset the appeal of synthetics, potentially bypassing these negative experiences.
