Slang for weed: 30 ways to say ‘cannabis’

The cannabis plant is and has been a hot topic around the world for a while now, and people have only come up with more slang for weed. Still, though not many people know a ton about it. Between the constant fearmongering from the government and health PSAs around high-potency pot, many are scared of marijuana and its possible effects, especially parents.
With the legalization of medical marijuana in almost every state, however, and the increase in support for recreational use, we’re only going to see more of it. Despite this rise in popularity of the plant, online censorship has stayed consistent, causing many to adopt nicknames for marijuana that only those in the know can decipher (see our piece about common emojis for weed).
We’re sure you’ve heard the basics—”weed,” “pot;” maybe even a “stoned” here and there. Still, though, there is so much common slang for cannabis included in our daily life that it’s hard to keep up with.
To make it easier for you to avoid a sticky situation around unknowingly being asked to smoke, or simply to learn to decode the foreign language your stoner friends seem to speak, we’ve compiled an extensive list of marijuana slang terms that you need to know.
