Kimmel declares next big cannabis holiday, and it’s all about Snoop Dogg

Indoor versus outdoor, solventless versus BHO–cannabis culture is full of debates. One thing that no stoner, connoisseur, or consumer will argue about is that Snoop Dogg is the G.O.A.T. Today, on October 20th, the world celebrates his birthday, and according to late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, the day will forever be DoggFather’s Day.

Last night on his show, the comedian had Snoop Dogg on to talk about his new cereal and ice cream ventures. While they munched on Snoop’s Hoopz poured into the pints of Dr. Bombay Ice Cream, Kimmel shared that he had a surprise for his guest and long-time friend.

When speaking to Snoop, Kimmel explained that his family celebrates half-birthdays. As the late-night host scrolled through to see what the Doggfather’s half birthday would be, he realized it lies on the historic stoner holiday: 4/20.

At that moment, show personality Guillermo emerged from a smokey doorway wearing a cannabis leaf suit and holding what appeared to be a giant pack of rolling papers. Kimmel took the paper pack and proclaimed a holiday in honor of all the rapper, actor, and entrepreneur has done for the world of weed.

While the two stood facing one another. Kimmel slowly pulled a scroll from the rolling papers and read, “Whereas Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., known worldwide as Snoop Doggie Dogg, has made significant contributions to the popularization of marijuana aka weed, aka pot, aka ganja, herb, bud, trees, cheeba, kush, chronic, reefer, dank, sticky icky icky and jolly green giggle sticks.”

Snoop Dogg held his eyes closed in reverence as he joked but also seemed a little touched by the tender bit.

Kimmel continued, “Whereas Mr. Dogg’s birthday miraculously falls on the exact midway point to 4-20, a coincidence that is totally tripping me out right now, we encourage tokers around the world to lift their goblets of gin & juice, blaze their blunts, scooby their doobies and share their Satan’s spinach to pay tribute, as I, Jizimmy Kizimmel, proclaim the 20th day of October to be … DoggFather’s Day!”

The mogul opened his eyes with thankfulness and remarked, “One nation under a bud leaf, and we’re gonna blow one for the po’ one.”

The rapper was a hot topic the night before on Kimmel. Mike Epps was sharing his Northern Lights experience in an interview about his trip to Iceland. As Epps explained the awe-inspiring experience, he brought up his friend Snoop Dogg. Apparently, Epps called up Snoop looking for an Icelandic hookup. He wanted to scope out the celestial rarity a little lit, and the Doggfather led him to the green.

When Kimmel asked Snoop about it the night of the holiday proclamation he laughed.

“Last time I checked, I was the plug to your plug, the connect,” Snoop shared through a sly smile. “It’s good to have friends that have friends that– you know, international, global– that are able to get you medicated and dedicated no matter where you’re at.”

Turns out it is a good thing to be the connect. In the case of Snoop Dogg, it surely played a part in his birthday becoming a new stoner holiday.

Honestly, the industry and culture got behind 7/10 for less, we can surely rally around October 20th as the official Doggfather’s Day. Light one up for the OG today to say thanks for his work normalizing the plant.
