Brand offers $5k giveaway to deserving veterans

Veterans and their families make many sacrifices serving their country. Despite the risks they face, vets are often left in need once they return to civilian life. According to statistics, one in four veterans suffer from a mental health condition; roughly 13 percent of the unhoused population in the U.S. are vets. One cannabis brand hopes to offer respite for several deserving veterans—and raise awareness for countless others.

InHouse, a line of flower, vapes, and gummies in the MariMed family, launched Help on the Homefront to educate its consumers about the housing challenges veterans across America face. The program will provide $5,000 to a veteran in several of MariMed’s retail markets, including Maryland, Massachusetts, Delaware, and Illinois. The brand seeks to help with “financially challenging demands like home repairs, accessibility improvements, and back rent or mortgage payments.”

Veterans over the age of 21 are encouraged to apply online; friends and family may also nominate a loved one. The program runs through November, with results announced in December. No purchase is necessary, and winners will be selected at random.

“The Help on the Homefront initiative provides a unique opportunity to give thanks and real support to our veterans, who comprise an important and growing part of our loyal customer base,” Olya Key, brand director at InHouse, told GreenState. “This initiative also gives us the chance to show our appreciation and gratitude to our employees who have fought for our country.”

MariMed has a track record of giving back to the community. Its Betty’s Eddies brand previously collaborated with the Keep A Breast Foundation (“KAB”) to raise awareness for breast cancer screening. The company has also donated turkeys for Thanksgiving and encouraged customers to give to local food banks.

The cannabis community is rooted in social justice; many brands seek to give back. The InHouse Help on the Homefront program is just one example of a weed company supporting those who need it most.
