Popular celeb mistakenly dosed friends with magic mushrooms

Psychedelics are becoming more mainstream every day. Communities continue to enact policy reform, leading to reduced stigma. Safety is always paramount, especially when it comes to storage, but one celebrity apparently learned that the hard way: Zoe Kravitz.

In a recent interview with her Caught Stealing costar Austin Butler, the actress revealed she mistakenly dosed her friends with magic mushrooms. And it happened more than once.

“I’ve never accidentally taken hallucinogenics, but I have accidentally dosed several people,” she said. Kravitz was responding to Butler’s query about whether she had ever accidentally tripped herself.

As the story goes, Kravitz said she had chocolates infused with psilocybin, aka magic mushrooms, in her refrigerator. A guest at her home took one without asking, unaware of the special ingredient.

“My friend came to visit me from Paris and went into my fridge when I wasn’t there. And ate the chocolate mushrooms I had sitting there, and called me, and I had to leave work and take care of her.”

The High Fidelity star added that a similar incident happened just a month later. She soon realized she needed to label the products to avoid future problems.

Kravitz recently brought the situation to life in the viral finale of Apple TV’s hit comedy, The Studio. Playing a fictionalized version of herself, the leading lady inadvertently consumed multiple grams of ‘shrooms in, you guessed it, chocolate. The result was a hilarious scene wherein the star was tripping in a major way, just hours before a big presentation.

Both scenarios demonstrate the importance of keeping your drugs secure. While psilocybin is reported to be less harmful than many other drugs, being high when you weren’t planning on it can be uncomfortable, scary, and inconvenient. Magic mushrooms are also a Schedule I substance, so to avoid issues with law enforcement and a major faux pas with your friends, always proceed with extreme caution.
