My holiday wish list for the cannabis community
The holiday season is here. From Santa’s sleigh to white elephant exchanges, gifts are everywhere. But when I think about my weed wish list this year, it’s not filled with bongs and buds. I’m thinking bigger. Here’s what’s on my cannabis wish list this year.

Free all cannabis prisoners
Cannabis reform may be sweeping the nation, but there are still thousands of people incarcerated for non-violent marijuana offenses. While many of us are enjoying the ability to buy a joint and smoke it legally, others are behind bars for the very same thing. The federal government is pushing to remove certain restrictions on cannabis, and I hope it keeps those prisoners in mind as the process moves forward.
Medical patients are put back at the forefront
As adult-use cannabis becomes more widespread, it often feels like medical marijuana patients are being forgotten. Those who find a better quality of life thanks to the plant are the reason we’re here in the first place. We must continue to protect them and ensure they have access to their medicine (I’m talking to you, lawmakers and health insurers).

Hemp and cannabis operators unite
2026 is going to be a watershed moment for the cannabis community. The federal government is seeking to crack down on the hemp industry while simultaneously working to relax some marijuana laws. Why not level the playing field? Hemp and cannabis come from the same plant, yet the two industries have become bitterly divided. I wish people on both sides could remember we’re all on the same team and the real enemy is the feds for dividing us in the first place.
Meta cuts cannabis creators a break
This isn’t just on my wish list; it’s likely shared by many cannabis creators who want to share information about the plant without fear of censorship. Posting a photo of weed shouldn’t get someone kicked off social media. So, to Zuck, I ask: Can you tweak your AI to go after posts that are actually harmful and leave cannabis creators alone?
Fancy rigs and gourmet edibles are nice, but my weed wish list is really a manifestation of the future. And while Santa may not bring all of these presents in one trip, hopefully, he’ll offer a few surprises soon.
