The modern weed market often runs on hype. The hot new cross or exclusive collab is simply irresistible to many consumers. New strains often hit like a tidal wave, with varieties like Blue Lobster and Toad Venom getting a lot of attention in recent months. But there can only be one strain of the year, and in 2025, it was Hash Burger.

Leafly, a leading cannabis strain database, named Hash Burger its 2025 Strain of the Year this week. The cross of Han Solo Hash Plant and Double Burger ranked among the most popular strains on the platform last year, drawing about 9,000 page views per month and earning an average user rating of 4.7 stars.

California Seed Bank’s Respect and Mrs. Respect are the breeders credited with creating Hash Burger. According to Leafly, they developed the variety during a now-defunct partnership with Skunk House Genetics’ Skunkmaster Flex.

Hash Burger’s lineage includes several weed heavyweights such as Chemdawg, Triangle Kush, OG Kush, and G13. The Chemdawg, parent of GMO, is likely responsible for the rank aroma, while the Kush genetics may shape the stoney effects.

Fans praise Hash Burger for its intensely funky bouquet. According to Leafly, dominant terpenes myrcene, caryophyllene, and limonene produce notes of earth, ammonia, umami, and onion.

Reviewers describe the effects as deeply sedating, leaning into its indica genetics. Many of the reviewers say the strain hits the head first, with an intense euphoria that eventually spreads throughout the body for maximum relaxation. Some users report turning to Hash Burger in the evening to unwind or manage pain and sleep issues.

Hash Burger was on the GreenState radar back in the fall of 2024. The team said the strain “feels like watching the sunset on a porch swing, kind of vibes, chill and mindless. The variety shines in how it helps a person relax their mind.”

The cultivar has become one of the most discussed strains online, with multiple Reddit threads dedicated to it. In one recent post, dozens of commenters chimed in about the strain’s potent effects and meaty, garlicky fragrance. Consumers across the country continue to rave about Hash Burger, and the buzz shows little sign of slowing.

Hash Burger beat fellow Strain of the Year contenders Gush Mints, Dulce de Uva, Sour Diesel, and Blue Lobster. While all the nominees were deserving of the crown in their own right, the popularity and sheer uniqueness of Hash Burger put it on top.
