Police in Wisconsin said a 7-year-old was caught vaping CBD at school.

Franklin police said a teacher caught a second-grader with the vaping device at Country Dale Elementary School.

The boy was vaping in class, investigators said.

He said he got the vape device from his mother’s purse.

Nicole Hearold said she was surprised she hadn’t heard about the incident at her kids’ school.

“I can’t even imagine. Obviously, the child has seen an adult or someone else doing that to even know what to do,” she said.

Police said the boy was using a “SMOK Novo” vaping device.

It looks similar to a USB flash drive.

The boy’s mother told investigators the vape device contained CBD oil.

“I’m sure she regrets leaving it in her purse where he could get ahold of it,” Hearold said. “I guess I really hadn’t thought too much about my elementary school students being in contact with a vaping device. I don’t think they would know what to do with it.”

A social worker from Child Protective Services picked up the child from school and took him to Children’s Hospital to get checked out.

He was OK.

“Hopefully, my kids would not see me do that, or my husband, or any other adults. Unfortunately, that’s a reality we have now,” Hearold said.

The boy was returned to his mother’s care.

Police said no charges would be filed in the case.

School officials said they threw the vape device in the garbage.

“The safety and integrity of students and families is paramount,” District Administrator Dr. Judy Mueller said. “As a school community, we have concern about the national vaping epidemic, especially when we see the impact on our Franklin students and families. We are continuously working to stay on top of the latest findings and expert recommendations.”
