When it comes to making your stash last, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it. Tragically, all too many are choosing the latter, and losing precious investments because of it.

When you buy weed, it’s important to make sure it’s stored properly. Otherwise, it will dry out, lose flavor, and go bad. Ultimately, bad cannabis storage can lead to a lot of money down the drain.

That’s why we took a look at the biggest weed storage mistakes you may (or, more optimistically, may not) be making.

1. Exposing Your Weed to Sunlight

Sunshine is great for a lot of things, but when it comes to keeping weed fresh, the sun is not your friend. But many people make the mistake of keeping their bud in clear containers out in the open where it is exposed to direct sunlight.

Our advice? Keep your weed in a closed container far away from any windows.

2. Storing Weed In Plastic Bags

Plastic baggies might be cheap, but they aren’t ideally suited for storing weed. They tend to generate a static charge, which can damage the trichomes in marijuana. And when this happens, you’ll quickly notice a difference in flavor.

Rather than using baggies, invest in some decent airtight containers and keep the containers as clean as possible to prevent exposure to contaminants.

3. Putting Your Weed In the Freezer

This is a bad idea because cold air causes buds to become dry and brittle. The result is a loss of flavor and harsher smoke.

Always opt for cool and dry rather than cold or frozen.

4. Failing to Use Airtight Containers

There’s no need to spend a fortune on containers, but they at least need to be airtight. Keep in mind that exposure to air will quickly dry out your bud.

The key is to invest in airtight containers so you won’t have to worry about exposure to oxygen, which causes weed to rapidly break down and lose potency.

5. Storing Weed Near Electronics

Believe it or not, heat emissions from household electronics can damage your weed. That’s why it’s so important to keep your weed in an airtight container and place it in a cool, dry place where it will be safe.

6. Mixing Different Cannabis Products

If you’re in the habit of tossing all your cannabis products in one spot, you’d be wise to stop. Weed is easy to damage, especially when exposed to concentrates, resins, ashes, and edibles.

The best way to maximize freshness is to store everything separately.

Cannabis can help you relax, reduce chronic pain, and help you enjoy life to the fullest, but let’s face it – it can also drain your bank account. Avoid these storage mistakes to help protect your costly investment.
