Seth Rogen on Cannabis: 9 Quotes that prove he really is the unofficial Ambassador of Weed

Seth Rogen and weed exist as peanut butter is to jelly – rarely apart, and better together.

The Canadian comedian has been one of the biggest proponents of weed in Hollywood since the start of his career, directing and starring in classic stoner flicks like “Pineapple Express” and “The Night Before.” He smoked a joint on live TV with Conan O’Brien (no, seriously) and brought a weed lollipop to the Golden Globes. In a recent interview with British GQ, Rogen estimated he smokes eight or nine joints a day – the first one: with his morning coffee.

In the pandemic, his attention shifted from film to his own cannabis-ceramics-hybrid company, “Houseplant,” which sells quality, decorative ashtrays alongside cannabis of equal caliber (whoever said stoners aren’t productive?) He said in an announcement about the company, “If you know anything about me at all, it’s probably that I really love weed.”

Needless to say, Rogen is easily on our “Mount Rushmore of people we’d like to smoke with” (to borrow the words of Jimmy Kimmel.) So, in homage to this titan of stoner culture, we pulled nine hilarious Seth Rogen quotes about his favorite herb.

*Cue Seth Rogen stoner laugh*

1. On healthy living

In a 2010 appearance on “Conan,” Conan O’Brien’s late show, conversation turned to medical marijuana in California. Though recreational cannabis was not yet legal in the state, Rogen claimed “literally anyone” could get a medical marijuana card. He said,

“Yes, I have a medical marijuana prescription, personally. I went in, they said, ‘what do you need it for?’ and I said, ‘I have a very specific ailment – it’s called, I ain’t got no weed on me right now.'”

According to Rogen’s account, the staff responded, “We actually have just the thing for that.”

2. On happiness

In a more recent interview on the Jimmy Kimmel show, Rogen emerged from quarantine inspired. He’d been researching cannabis strains with his lifelong friend and business partner, Evan Goldberg (for business purposes, of course.) When Kimmel asked if any cannabis product hadn’t “worked” for him so far, Rogen replied,

“I’ve never smoked a joint and had it be like that just didn’t work. That would be terrible, like a ‘Twilight Zone’ episode.”

3. On business

In the same post-pandemic interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Rogen described the method to the madness that is naming cannabis strains for his business, Houseplant.

As it turns out, Rogen names each of his strains after weather patterns, like “Pink Moon,” in homage to the famous “Pineapple Express” (which was a term for an atmospheric river that hovers over the Pacific coast before the 2008 movie made it more commonly associated with a cannabis strain.)

After speaking at length on this strategy, Rogen finally said,

“There was a point I was embarrassed at how much thought I put into weed. But I’ve embraced it.”

4. On professional athletics

Though always funny, Rogen has no qualms about taking a stand on serious issues.

Just days ago, when it was announced that track star Sha’Carri Richardson might be disqualified from the Olympics because of a positive cannabis test, Rogen tweeted, “If weed made you fast, I’d be FloJo.”

5. On the royals

Another recent event Rogen commented on was the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Oprah interview.

In a conversation on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” shortly after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex accused the British monarchy of racism and deceit, Rogen was asked what he thought of Harry and Meghan’s testimony. His reply, with an air of genuine concern, was,

“If they want weed, hit me up… they could use it, it seems.”

6. On surviving the pandemic

Of course, when it comes to not just surviving, but thriving in quarantine, Seth Rogen may have us all beat. While many of us were making toilet paper pyramids and learning TikTok dances (not that we’d know anything about that,) Rogen was scaling his business, smoking pot, and making pottery.

The comedian joked over a Zoom call with Jimmy Kimmel that he’d “smoked a truly ungodly amount of weed” in quarantine, so staying indoors wasn’t too much of a challenge for him. He said,

“We are not all in this together, because this has not been that bad for me.”

7. On managing stress

Though Rogen is actually known to be one of the most productive stars in Hollywood, he keeps it low key.

When Conan O’Brien recently admitted to him that he didn’t “know what to do with down time” on the “Conan” show, Rogen made the on-brand suggestion of “smoking a lot of weed for a long time.” He added,

“You seem like someone who doesn’t smoke a lot of weed to me.”

The two lit up a joint on stage moments later.

8. On the important issues

Still waiting for an answer to this one.

Hey @elonmusk will weed be legal on Mars?”

9. On the perfect day

The simplicity of Seth Rogen’s THC-infused philosophy on life is a huge part of his appeal to fans across the world, and it’s in no small part to thank for why many of his films have been blockbuster hits.

If you’re ever having a bad day, just picture Seth Rogen doing this.

“Few things nicer than getting baked, walking around New York on a sunny day and eavesdropping on couples who are arguing.”

Better, right?
